Craft a Dessert Pizza

Attention, hungry runners: If you haven’t yet picked up our January 2014 issue, get down on it.

Why? Because we’ve dedicated 10 pages of our magazine – 10 mouth-watering pages – to the greatest of all foods, pizza.

The story includes recipes, baking tips, and more. Unfortunately, the issue is not waterproof, so try not to drool over the photos.

One recipe that couldn’t fit onto the pages is below. If you want more than just this little taste, check out the full pizza story in the issue.

Berry Dessert Pizza

What you’ll need:

285g homemade or store-bought pizza dough

115g (1/2 cup) cream cheese

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon orange zest

1 cup sliced banana

1 cup sliced strawberries

1 cup blueberries

1/4 cup chopped almonds or pistachios

1/4 cup dried coconut flakes

55g dark chocolate, chopped

How to make it:

  1. Poke the rolled dough in several places with a fork so it does not puff up. Place dough on pizza stone or baking sheet and cook for 8 minutes, or until crust is golden. Remove crust from oven.
  2. Stir together cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange zest and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth. Spread cream cheese mixture over crust and top with banana, strawberries and blueberries. Sprinkle on nuts and coconut. Bake pizza for an additional 3 minutes.
  3. Melt the chocolate in a double broiler or a heat-proof bowl set over a saucepan of barely simmering water, stirring often until smooth. Or microwave chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in 25 second intervals, stirring after each interval until smooth.
  4. Serve pizza slices drizzled with chocolate sauce.
