The 2024 Paris Olympics roared to a close with the women’s marathon on Sunday morning. Sifan Hassan battled to the finish against Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa to secure the gold medal for the Netherlands. On Hassan’s feet were a pair of the Nike Alphafly 3, which proved to be the most popular shoe of choice among the fastest finishers.

Chasing Nike for the silver was the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1—with an eye-popping price tag at half a grand. Notably, Olympians ran in the v2 of the Adidas Adizero Adios Evo 1, which is not available on Adidas’s site, the main distinction between the two versions is a grippier outsole on the newer model. You can also see additional cutouts in the v2’s outsole that you won’t find on the v1’s smooth underfoot film.

The Cloudboom Strike LS’s upper is sprayed directly onto the shoe’s last, eliminating the need for any glue or a sockliner.
On’s latest creation is a technology called “LightSpray” that gives this shoe’s upper a seamless, laceless fit. (That’s the “LS” in the shoe’s name.) It makes sense that Obiri opted to stick with this version of the On Cloudboom Strike, since she also wore an earlier prototype model to win the 2024 Boston Marathon.
